Â
In honor of Earth Day weekend, I wanted to share with you two reasons we are launching our newly-designed "My Next 90 Days"Â Daily Action Planners.
The first reason is that we wanted to be more in alignment with our earth-friendly mission. Our community was reporting back that they were not using each page and at the end of the 30 days, they would have a lot of unused paper.Â
There was another important second reason we made the shift. The original planners dedicated two pages to one day. When I mentored my employees on productivity and time management, I realized that they needed a bigger view on the week versus focusing on tiny details for each day.
No meaningful movement could be made because they were getting dragged into the weeds with too many to-dos, interruptions, and distractions.Â
It reminds me of when I was a concert pianist and one of my professors said to our class of musicians (who often practiced up to 13 hours a day), "If you are practicing more than six hours a day and not enjoying life, something is wrong."Â
Look at how many "to-dos" this musician has to remember! It's stifling and gives no freedom to enjoy the music. How many of you are over-stuffing your day with busy-work?Â
The same philosophy applies to our daily lives. If you have a mile-long to-do list and not savoring life, something is wrong. We want to see the overall vision in order to make the daily actions work for, not against, a bigger picture.Â
In order to see the overall musical vision, my piano professor encouraged me to put the music on the ground and look at it from a bird's eye view. This way I could see the bigger picture (the purpose) and not get bogged down by the busy-ness of a million notes.Â
This is why the Week-at-a-Glance is so powerful. It gives us the bird's eye view on our week and reminds us to do the essentials and then to SAVOR LIFE DAILY.Â
In the Daily Action Planner, we've made organizing your week easy with Steps 0-5. In the previous weeks, I shared how to do Step 0 (Brain Detox) and Step 1 (Define Priorities).Â
Declaring how you #savorlifedaily is Step 2. This is simply carving out time for non-negotiable "me time" or savoring a success, expressing gratitude, or celebrating something that makes you happy and joyful.Â
Here's to enjoying juicy oranges, simplifying our days, and savoring life,
Angela Jia Kim
